DIET, Kendrapara is an old Teacher Education Institute in the district. Since its inception in the year1971 as a Secondary Training School,it has been functioning as an oldest and premier institute of the district in the field of the Teacher Education. It was started as a Basic Training (B.T) School on 28th February 1903 & upgraded to Elementary Training (E.T)School later on. Since December 16, 1971, it has been working as Secondary Training school till its upgradation to DIET in 2005.
In pursuant to the provision of NPE and POA on teacher education, a Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Restructuring and Re-organisation of teacher education was approved. During these days, the DIET have been giving more focus of pre-service education but after the new vision of DIET as stated in NEP 2020 and particularly in view of the gradual phasing out of D.El.Ed programme.
A Teacher Education Institution has the potential to bring changes with in educational systems that shapes the knowledge and skills of future generations. Teacher education institutions serve as key change agents in transforming education and society. To me, the role and responsibility of teacher education institute is to educate new teachers, provide professional development for practicing in-service teachers by updating their knowledge and skills, create teacher education curricula, carry out research, contribute to textbooks, provide expert advice to local schools, provide expert opinion to provincial and national ministries of education and educate and certify headmasters, principals, and other school administrators on pedagogy and school management. In this respect, DIET, Kendrapara is unique in all respect.
