History of DIET, Kendrapara

Carved out of the erstwhile District of Cuttack, Kendrapara District is situated in Central Coastal plain zone of Odisha. The District is bounded by Bhadrak District at its North, Jajpur at its North West, Jagatsinghpur District at its South, Cuttack District at its West and Bay of Bengal at its East. Kendrapara District lies in 20 degree 20’N to 20 degree 37’N Latitude and 86 degree 14’E to 87 degree 01’E Longitude. The Coastline of Kendrapara District covers 48 Km stretching from Dhamra Muhan to Batighar. Headquarters of Kendrapara Districtis well known as the Tulasi Khetra.

DIET, Kendrapara is an old Teacher Education Institute in the district. Since its inception in the year1971 as a Secondary Training School,it has been functioning as an oldest and premier institute of the district in the field of the Teacher Education. It was started as a Basic Training (B.T) School on 28th February 1903 & upgraded to Elementary Training (E.T)School later on. Since December 16, 1971, it has been working as Secondary Training school till its upgradation to DIET in 2005. Since then, DIET has been serving as an apex institute in the field of Elementary Teacher Education in the district. It strives its excellence to impart quality education at par with the best in states to the elementary teachers through upgradation and enrichment of their content knowledge, updating of skill and capacity building. The Institution cherishes a rich &prosperous academic heritage in the district. In the year 2005, the STS was upgraded to District Institute of Education and Training. Since then, the institute has been working as a leading teacher education institute in the district. With the collaboration of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Samagra Siksha, the institute has been working for the qualitative improvement in the field of school education. Preparation of training module, training of the teachers as master trainer and district resource group, preparation of activity bank, question bank, collaborative research taking CRCCs and DRG have been the focus of the institute. The institute has its own building in its own land having one MP Hall, 3 classrooms, Administrative Block, Library, ICT Lab.

 

Vision

  • As the district academic authority and apex body of teacher education in the district, DIET takes care of capacity building of the different stake holders like teachers, headteachers, CRCCs, BRCCs, administrative officers of school education.
  • The DIET works as the media to of quality school education between the state and grass-root stake holders. It will the nodal agency of implementing all plans and schemes of the Centre and State as well as put the grass root level issues before the state and centre for policy changes.
  • The DIET prepares a vision plan/perspective plan for the district for a chronological holistic development in school education in the district.
  • The DIET prepare the composite plan of training and workshop every year as per the 5-year vision plan for sustainable development with District Samagra Siksha.
  • The DIET prepares modules and manual on different themes and contents and conduct all types of training, workshops, seminars, symposium, discussion forum, awareness camp for parents and community as well as the follow up activities in the district with a special focus on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy.

Mission

  • The DIET works for robust monitoring and mentoring the stakeholders of school education and the messenger of district progress for the state.
  • The DIET is the hub of digital education and a vibrant agency of uploading maximum e-content in DIKSHA Portal.
  • The DIET conducts different types of short-term/refresher Continuous Professional Development Course for the Teachers, Head Teachers, CRCCs and other stakeholders of school education in Physical,Virtual and Blended mode.
  • The DIET adapts the state textbooks as per the language and local cultural knowledge with specific focus of the district to make learning meaningful for the young learners.
  • The DIET publishes reading materials, journals, books for Teachers, Head Teachers, CRCCs and other stakeholders of school education.
  • The DIET is the agency of all types of large-scale assessment (NAS, SLAS etc.) as well as the School Based Assessment and take the initiative for further course of action to bring a change in quality education in the district. It will conduct large-scale, small-scale and collaborative action research in liew of the of the districtspecific issues with regard to school education.
